Since the year 2011 the Telethon Colombia Foundation has been implementing a rehabilitation strategy based on the community (RBC) which has benefited about 3000 persons with disabilities.
The Telethon Colombia President, Miss Emilia Ruiz informed that the RBC rehabilitation strategy which has social inclusion as its fundamental aim in Colombia is mainly implemented by the municipalities of Eje Cafetero, Cartagena, Bucaramanga and El Cauca. The strategy is focused on improving the quality of life of people with disabilities and their families and assisting their basic needs.
The genesis of the present model of the RBC is centered on the joined, coordinated actions that were agreed with the World Health Organization (OMS), the International Work Organization (OIT) and the UNESCO in the year 2004 in order to consolidate the strategy through rehabilitation strategies, equal opportunities, lessening of poverty and the social inclusion of people with disabilities.
